If you are missing one or more of your natural teeth in Bolingbrook or Naperville and are interested in restoring your smile permanently, dental implants from Dr. Kandimalla are a great option. With a lifespan of 30+ years, dental implants are the best long-term solution for replacing missing teeth and supporting the health of your jaw. Call today to schedule your implant consultation at Innova Family Dental.

Your Dental Implant Options

The most common type of dental implants are single-tooth implants, which use one implant and a dental crown to restore a single missing tooth. Full-arch implants are also available. This treatment involves the placement of a series of 4-6 implants to support a denture or a fixed dental bridge. Full-arch implants restore your upper, lower, or both arches of teeth. At Innova Family Dental, we specialize in single-tooth implants.

Learn About The Implant Process

The process starts with an initial consultation with Dr. Kandimalla. She’ll perform a comprehensive oral exam to determine whether you’re a good candidate for implants. If so, she will develop your personalized implant treatment plan right away.

At your next appointment, Dr. Kandimalla will place your dental implant, which is a small, screw-shaped piece of titanium. To do this, she will numb your mouth and create an incision in your gums and jaw, then place the implant in the proper position. To finish your placement procedure, she will clean the area and suture it shut.

What To Expect In The Restoration

It will take 3-6 months for your dental implant to “osseointegrate” and bond with your jaw bone. During this time, you will come in for several appointments with Dr. Kandimalla. She will take impressions and images of your mouth and your dental implant, which will be used to create your dental crown.

Once your dental implant has healed completely, Dr. Kandimalla will schedule your final consultation. Your dental crown will be attached permanently to the dental implant, restoring your tooth and completing the procedure.

Recovery & Aftercare

After your dental implant is placed, Dr. Kandimalla will give you a set of instructions to help you recover more quickly. You may experience some pain and discomfort in the area for a few days after your implant has been placed.

Typically, you will simply need to eat a soft diet and avoid chewing around the implant area to prevent pain and discomfort. You should also brush very carefully around the area using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Most swelling, bruising and discomfort should fade after a few days. Most patients can go back to their regular diet and oral care routine after about a week post-procedure.

However, the process of osseointegration takes much longer. Usually, your implant will not be stable enough to be restored until about 3-6 months after it has been placed. Dental implants require patience, but it’s worth the wait. Once your implant is finished, it will last 30+ years with proper care!
